Trinity Heritage Days
May 10, 2025
Touching History !
Roll back time for the 6th annual Trinity Heritage Days!
Join in the festivities on May 10, from 11am - 4 pm
The Nor-Rel-Muk Wintu Nation's Tribal Drums, Tribal Chairperson Tracy Foster-Olstad, and Grand M.C. Lonyx Landry invite guests to the Opening Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. in the Highland Art Center Meadow, 691 Main St.  The drums call people to the opening ceremony of prayer, song, and dance.  The air crackles with excitement and sound as the Thundering Moccasins circle the fire with the opening dance.

Also featured will be traditional dancing by the Bay Area Wintu/Pomo Dancers and the Inter-tribal Youth Dancers.

Traditional Arts and Culture will follow the ceremony until 4:00 p.m. with FREE drop-in, hands-on craft workshops for  all-ages with guest artists and story tellers from the North State.  Experience Flint Knapping, throwing the Atlatyl hunting spear, Jewelry Making, creating Dream Catchers, and playing traditional stick games.  Learn about the Native Heritage through presentations about Ishi from Beverly Ogle and the Natural Bridge Massacre with a transformative healing - to list just a few experiences to be had.

Neighboring the museum, is the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California, the Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park.   Distinguished by the Taoist temple, the park is laden with symbols of ancient deities, Chinese novelties, and speaks to the resilience of people by continuing to be a place of active worship.  There will tours of the temple and activities for children.

Up the lane, the Jake Jackson Museum will intrigue all with the tinkering of blacksmiths forging metal works and outdoor exhibits.  Hand-cranked ice cream from UpNorth Confectionary & Merchantile and cake will be offered at the Museum in celebration of the 175th Birthday of Trinity County.   The museum is open 11am until 3:00 pm.
