Opening the day with ceremony, the Nor-Rel-Muk Wintu Nation drummers will call people to the opening ceremony of prayer and songs. Experience Native Culture through FREE hands-on crafts. Visitors will experience handling the materials as they create a keepsake; a small basket, necklace makin, braiding a bear grass key chain, carving a fetish from soap stone, and painting rocks with ancient symbols. Enjoy the cedar bark tipi, furs, regalia, artifacts, drumming, medicinal plant walks, stories and Indian Tacos served all day.
Tours are available, on the hour, all day long and docents will lead calligraphy workshops, coloring, and extra activities for guests from 11-4. Explore the temple’s intricate architecture and design, while being introduced to Taoism and the fascinating role the Chinese played in early settlement history.
At high noon, join the US Forest Service for a mule packing demonstration and information session followed by original cowboy poetry. Don't miss the “Pot Luck Pies” sold by the slice at the Congregational Church, near the Highland Meadow, from 12:00-2:30. Up the hill, the Young Family Ranch homestead welcomes you to life on the farm. Stock animals, goat milking, water witching, and hand crank ice cream demonstrations are just part of the midday fun at home. |
Up the lane, the Jake Jackson Museum will intrigue all with the tinkering of blacksmiths forging metal works, gold panning and other outdoor exhibits that await public and prospectors alike. Neighboring the museum, is the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California, the Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park. Distinguished by the Taoist temple, the park is laden with symbols of ancient deities, Chinese novelties, and speaks to the resilience of people by continuing to be a place of active worship.

Next door, the quiet neighbors hold the history of our town. The Weaverville Cemetery is cloaked in pioneer names and hidden stories of those early explorers. Take a hunt with the Weaverville Cemetery Association at 12:30 and 2:00, to find old graves, remarkable etchings, and make your own tombstone rubbings.
Back downtown, merchants will be dressed to impress an element of old time mercantile to the patron. Staged in the battered brick buildings of the late 1800’s, the mysterious weight of history is alive and thriving in the merchant district. Enjoy music, visit merchants, and spread merriment all day. Our day’s events will close with a grand performance by the Community Band at the Band Stand at 3pm! And if this isn’t enough to get you excited about our 2nd Frontier Days Celebration, mine the town for golden nuggets hidden along Main Street. Redeem your prizes, and take a piece of Weaverville home with you. Come one, come all! And join us as we spend the day touching history.
