FESTIVAL of LIGHT

The Festival of Light is happening November 11, 12, 13, 2021.

Proceeds from the event funds Art & Music Lessons for Children

Festival of Light is all about the children.
It is about art, dance and music.
It is about Holiday festivity with gifts to buy, a fun Dutch Auction, performances by children, hot soup lunch and bake sale!

The Festival of Light Art & Fine Crafts Event was started in 2008 by Pam Yearout and Elizabeth Watson when school budget cuts slashed art and music instruction from Trinity schools.  Since that time, the Festival of Light has raised funds for a year-round Scholarship that pays for art, dance and music instruction for Trinity County children.

Each year event goers have enjoyed this event in a festively decorated hall alive with music.  This year will have all the elements, but in a slightly different form.  Because FOL is all about the children, the event this year will again be a smaller, COVID safe event, to protect those children we are working to serve.
  • The event will be in EarthDance Studios and Gallery, Nov. 11, 12, 13, open 11 to 5pm.
  • 10 talented North State Artists are featured vendors.  Each is donating 20% of their sales to the FOL Fundraiser.
  • Amazing Dutch Auction with 32 pieces of original art and items donated from many businesses in town will be on display at EarthDance and Trinity County Arts Alive (photo album- Dutch Auction).  Tickets for the auction are available at EarthDance and on-line.  Cost for tickets:  $1 buys 1 ticket; $10 buys 20 tickets.  Explore the items in the photo album and link to ticket sales on Facebook at Trinity County Arts Alive.
  • U-Rok Bakery and Jai Waggoner be on hand with her delicious baked goods as a festival vendor.
  • The children will be perfoming on video.
  • Hot Soup Lunch! And yes, you can still have your soup lunch!  Several Weaverville restaurants and take out businesses have agreed to serve a special Festival of Light soup on the three days of the event, November 11, 12 and 13, and to donate a percentage of their sales to the FOL.
And yes, three days instead of one, to attract the same supportive crowds, but spread out over three days for better social distancing.  Dutch Auction tickets will be available on line.
Viva del Arte!  May the children thrive!

YOU may apply for funding from the Festival of Light Scholarship - Art, Dance, and Music lessons for your Trinity County Child.  If you have a favorite instructor, let us know.  Applications are available here.
Taylor and Danyel Aglipay  have taught students for years via FOL scholarship funds, and have presented their students for recitals for the annual FOL.  Their students speak out.  “What got me to play music was an interest to play the soundtrack to a movie I liked on the piano…” said Sunny Martinez.  “I feel like a scientist at his desk when I’m playing classical music, and I feel satisfied when playing show tune music.”  Beatrice says “I was excited to play an instrument to learn something new and how to make music.  Playing music makes me feel happy.”
