What is the ARTS council.
The Trinity County Arts Council is at the center of many ARTS Programs in Trinity County. Our Mission is to support our 3 Primary Objectives; Art in Education for children K-12 and Adults, Art in support of Tourism with increased participation in events that enable Trinity County to thrive, and Assist the Professional and Financial development of Artists.
Accomplishments:
- Years ago, the Arts Council created the monthly Art Cruise in Weaverville. We continue to organize and publicize the Cruise thanks to the generosity of Wayne and the Trinity Journal who provides a full page of coverage every month.
- Along with the Highland Art Center, we host the Young Artists Showcase in support of Art
In Education, K-12, and work with Trintiy County High Schools to present the High School Art Show.
- We create and sell Kards 4 Kids as a means of sharing the imaginative art produced in schools. The proceeds from selling the cards goes back to each school to support the continued Art in K-12.
- The Arts Council sponsors workshops to further art in education for adults. We sponsored several watercolor workshops with Evelyn Ward, beading with Paula Masterman, the Alchemical Mandala with Catherine Davidson, and a Pantomime workshop with the engaging Hildegard Corona. These workshops culminated in an evening of laughter with clever antics from clowns and the students from the Douglas City Afterschool Program.
- Art underlies our Tourism Trade. The Arts Council partners with event coordinators to insure that art and music are visibly represented. We pay the tab for live music at the Salmon Festival, help promote Autumn in the Alps and much more .
- We sponsor art contests, school plays and music events. We round-up prizes for auctions and fundraisers for many service organizations.
- The Arts Council produces the annual Artists in Action where artists line Main Street in Weaverville to demonstrate their crafts. Hundreds of tourists stop in town to enjoy the arts spectacle and stay for lunch and dinner.
- In support of our Mission to develop opportunities that assist the professional development of artists, we have produced more than 20 artists’ portfolios and continue to offer this free service.
Many of these events were staged in the Main Street Gallery that was also our office. Unfortunately, the cost to rent the gallery space was more than our income. (We depend upon donations and grants for our survival.) So- the Arts Council moved across the street to share space with the Trinity County Chamber of Commerce.
Our new location, 509 Main Street, Weaverville, provides us with a marvelous opportunity to collaborate with the many businesses that make up the Weaverville and Trinity County Chambers of Commerce and promote the ARTS angle for new programs.
Our relationship to local government:
The Trinity County Board of Supervisors has recognized the Trinity County Arts Council as the designated local arts agency per Resolution No. 2010-034 with the new resolution scheduled for approval at the May 16 Board of Supervisor’s meeting. As such, they support our efforts in Art Education and the furthering of art in Trinity County. The Trinity County Office of Education continues to endorse our programs to promote Art in Education. The TCAC has partnered with the Trinity County Chamber of Commerce and Weaverville Revitalization Committee to launch the “Weaverville Main Street 4 Point Approach Workshop” that is detailed in section D, Relation to Community.

reorganized, moved our office to the Main Street Gallery, and incorporated in 2005. April 2011, as part of our effort to establish the purpose and identity of the Arts Council, we chose to move our office to a business environment. We now share the building with the Trinity County Chamber of Commerce at 509 Main Street, Weaverville, providing us an opportunity to be directly involved with the businesses and events of the county.
The members of the TCAC Board are volunteers and are governed by the TCAC Bylaws. There are two paid part time staff members, the Executive Director and a Bookkeeper. The monthly Board meetings are public and are advertised in the Trinity County newspaper and on our website (trinitycountyarts.org), encouraging all to participate. It is our stated policy that diversity in Trinity County society is a source of strength for all of our residents; it should be nurtured in all aspects, especially the cultural.
